Pre-Marital Counselling
Have the conversations before the wedding that most couples only have — by accident — years into the marriage.
Pre-marital counselling: starting marriage with clarity
Getting married is a big decision, and it brings many questions. Pre-marital counselling gives you and your partner a calm, guided space to talk about expectations, differences and doubts before the wedding, so that you begin with openness rather than assumptions.
It is also for people who feel unsure about a match arranged by family, or who feel pressure from family and society. Sessions are available in person at our centre in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, or online.
Who pre-marital counselling is for
- Engaged couples and couples planning to marry
- People considering a match arranged by family who want clarity before deciding
- Partners who see their future differently
- Couples facing family pressure over religion, caste, culture or background
- Anyone who feels unsure and cannot say why
What couples talk about
- Expectations of marriage and daily life
- Communication and how you handle disagreements
- Family involvement and living arrangements
- Money, career and lifestyle
- Children and parenting
- Roles and responsibilities at home
- Intimacy and what each of you expects
- Values and long-term goals
When something feels off
Sometimes there is no big warning sign, only a quiet feeling that you are not compatible, along with worry about disappointing your parents or about what people will say. Counselling helps you separate your own voice from the voices of family and society, work out what compatibility really means for you, and plan how to speak honestly with your family.
How sessions work
Your counsellor does not tell you to say yes or no, and does not take sides. The aim is clarity: understanding yourself, your partner and what you each need. Sessions may be held together, or separately where that helps, and move at your pace. Everything you share is confidential.
What pre-marital counselling can give you
- Clearer communication habits
- Shared expectations for the marriage
- More confidence in your decision, whichever way it goes
- Tools for handling conflict early
- Less pressure from family and society

Helpful answers
Common questions
Is pre-marital counselling only for couples who have problems?
No. Many couples come simply to talk through expectations and build good habits before marriage. You do not need a problem to attend.
Can I come alone if the match is arranged or my partner is not ready?
Yes. You can come on your own to think through your doubts, and your partner can join later if you both wish.
Will the counsellor tell us whether to marry?
No. Your counsellor does not make that decision for you. They help you reach clarity so that the decision is truly yours.
How many sessions do we need?
It depends on what you want to cover. Your counsellor will talk with you about pace at your first session.
Can we attend online?
Yes. Sessions are available online as well as in person in Ashok Nagar, Chennai.
